There's a t-shirt. Shopgirlove doesn't get it. She is so not offended. She, herself, has referenced the typical latin family and the typical black labor-day weekend cook-off. (Um, yum!) Shopgirlove isn't Sen. Obama's biggest fan, but seriously? Not a big deal. When this country does decide to discuss race, Shopgirlove wants a seat at that table. Until then, have fun, FOXNews...

doesn't quite know what to say. Mission accomplished? Um...yeah, no. Reuters has a nice photo round up of a graduating class of a Baghdad police academy. Happy anniversary! Hey, shock and awe! On the other hand, when not being flip and/or glib, Shopgirlove has to admire the five years of reporting from the front lines. Good stuff. Love me some Reuters!

Life on Mars? Or, at least, the ingredients for hope of an intergalactic outpost. Although, according to one source, "It's highly unlikely that cows could survive here..." Shopgirlove really thought she didn't care; and yet she does.

Mr. " I totally ruined one of the best novels ever written; by one of the best writers of our generation," Anthony Minghella is dead at the incredibly tragic age of 54. Shopgirlove will hold his family in her heart. He was always gracious and generous and will be missed, if not by Elaine.

Shopgirlove had no intention of going anywhere near kristengate. But then the white men with microphones and keyboards started describing it as a "victimless crime." Oh really? That $5,500/hour wasn't his to spend. It was community property and Shopgirlove is pretty sure that Mrs. Spitz would not have chosen to spend it that way. College fund for the three daughters: YES! Extracurricular sexual escapades for the Mr.: NO! Geraldine Ferraro's gaffe has the white men with microphones and keyboards up in arms. (Funny, since they have little experience with being not white and not men.) And Obama is somehow his pastor's keeper. So, let's dive in...Que es mas malo? Race or gender? The real point here, is that women and non-white men far, far outnumber their light-complected, male fellow earthlings. Caucasians (male and female) account for only 10% of the earth's population. Yes, Shopgirlove said 10%. Women make up roughly 50%. (More are conceived, but fewer survive.) So, white men account for approximately 5% of the global demographic. Why does such a small group hold so much wealth and power? Shopgirlove has no idea. If the other 95% could just join hands and say "no mas," what would happen? Again, Shopgirlove has no idea. But she's willing to bet there would be some serious redistribution. In the meantime, there's a nice new political site that eschews division. A welcome addition and much-needed.

Shopgirlove could gush for days about him. His essay on the toad! But for most, he is always that Big Brother guy, or the other Big Brother guy, depending on how much tv you watch. (Season 8 was a doozy.) But the other Big Brother is getting even scarier. Or funnier, depending on the mood you're in. Shopgirlove was in a pretty good mood. She was gladdened by reports that Dextre's plugged in. That led her to wondering if robots "dream of electric sheep." This, in due course, led her to a disturbing story about just how scary Big Brother can get. Good-mood-be-gone! There's a movie--Tilda Swinton, you rock! And a donation box. At the end of the day, though, it's business as usual.
Snowy, rainy, cold, dreary: blech! Sounds like a good day to stay in bed with a good book from a good series of mysteries set in Tibet. At least we can rest easy about the Olympic torch! Phew! Shopgirlove was really worried. 'Cause the riots, occupation, ethnic tensions, and tortured monks and nuns are pretty minor matters when compared to the big games!

Shopgirlove is more than a little disgruntled. She asked Nosebleed for a stamp. Nosebleed said no because it would waste postage since we would need two stamps. (It would've cost 24 cents more than necessary for two stamps to mail an over sized envelope.) The person to whom Shopgirlove was mailing is worth $70,000 a year. Shopgirlove would cost the department approximately $5.00 by going to the mail room and metering the envelope, so, at the end of the day, our department spent $4.76 to save $0.24 mailing to a meal ticket. Swell. Not to mention how much time Shopgirlove had to waste when she went to the mail room. Really, job well done, Nosebleed! Morale boosted and department financially secure. Oh, you rock, sistah! Crapola. That on top of the technological and collegial challenges Shopgirlove has been confronting on a daily basis: sayonara job. I'm sending my resume to anyone who will accept it.

If you really want to know about the power of knowledge...I can fill you in. Hire me as your reader. Please, I would be so good. I have more curiosity than anyone you will ever meet. Let me tell you about the pilgrims and the clapboard: there were no skilled laborers on that first foray onto America's soil. There were merchants, and preachers, and useless men who had just enough cash for the fare to get here. Once they got here, they were stuck. None of them could forge a brick, nor cut a stone, neither could they taper tinder. So, smartly, they turned to the ships' carpenters. Who then built them upside-down boats. Hello clapboard, you are a ship sailing upside-down.

Kathy, utterly amazing and shocking! (4.00 / 3)
Shopgirlove was knocked out of commission by a migraine. Not the worst she's ever had, but not so much fun, either. One blessing of age is that they don't drop in as often as when she was in her twenties. Speaking of that amusing demographic, such a to-do over the "interview" with Facebook's Zuckerberg. The older set is deeply offended by WaPo's terrifically bad judgment in publishing this bit o' ditz. Also, there was a flurry of concern in response to allegations made by a former campaign finance officer/person who contributed some dough that the staff had bilked her for thousands of dollars! The best part was when she forgot that she was still logged on as her own biggest fan, "Jack Sparrow"
I am so glad you had the courage to tell your story! Hillary's campaign behavior couldn't be worse! You should post all your blogs on Daily Kos like

Her phone thinks it's 10:00, her computer thinks it's 11:00. In the dark ages, she would have had an analog time device as well as a carbon-based seasonal plotting device that would indicate the onset of DST and the appropriate actions to take. So, okay: spring forward, right? But, wait--the phone updates itself via satellite, non? So it must be the computer...oh, ew! Shopgirlove is NOT slogging through all of that! Whatever! Who cares what time it is!!! It is definitely time for a red snapper!.

Shopgirlove loves a scandal! So, if you compare this image from the ad (center) and the two other screen grabs, you see a noticeable and distinct difference in the color of her skin. She progresses from pasty to pale to bronze Goddess (in no-line-bifocals.) Oh most foul! Most unfair! HAVE THEY NO SHAME?

Shopgirlove hopes that the junior Senator from NY would put some meat on these bones if elected. Our troops have enough problems to confront while on active duty without having to fight battles when they come home. Oh well, Shopgirlove also hopes the junior Senator from IL would back the troops were he elected.

The Filly ripped her birthday skirt and it fell off when we were leaving the restaurant. Shopgirlove immediately drew down her own and passed it over. She then retired, skirtless, to Chez Shopgirlove/The Filly. The Filly sallied forth and the denouement is pending. However, Shopgirlove spent an uncomfortable 20 minutes keeping her coat closed,

Shopgirlove loved Tip O'Neill. She does not, however, love the national political scene. She's not actually certain there even is a national political scene. Let's face it: Obama-Clinton? Whither the distinction in this difference? Texas, Ohio? Who cares? Well, some do. However, most of the impact on everyday lives seems to happen at the State and municipal levels. Although, some people could, apparently, benefit from a refresher course on the geography of these United States. Hi, Trooper Bowler, California is west of Massachusetts:
"California's a bellwether state. What happens here, blows east," Larry Bowler, a retired deputy sheriff from Sacramento who opposes gay marriage, said outside the courthouse.
So, while every citizen in this country has a President regardless of their race, gender, or geography; how long each has a President seems determined more by zip code than anything else. And irony of ironies? Local elections have the lowest turnout:
"Voter Turnout: Municipal Elections Compared to Presidential/Gubernatorial Elections November voter turnout is four times higher: Turnout in presidential and
gubernatorial elections (November elections) is higher than turnout for municipal
elections (held in March). From 1980 through 2004, turnout in Presidential elections
ranged from 76% in 1996 to 89% in 2004, whereas turnout in local elections was
approximately 30% in 1980 but declined to approximately 17% in 2004..."
Yes, Shopgirlove understands just how important the Supremes are. She gets that the war(s) is/are a really bad idea. And, yes, these are Federal issues. However, day by day?
All politics is local.

Now this is funny! Shopgirlove loves dogs. They are idless. Or are they super-egoless? No, they have a super-ego. But definately no id. G'bless them and their humans. Great thanks to our ancestors for bringing them into the fold. Isn't it just like a dog to take on a wall?
